The State Honours
Committee was established in
April 2007 to ensure that eligible Neighbourhood Watch volunteers
received due
recognition for their service to the community.
Such honours comprise those awarded by State Neighbourhood Watch, awards through the National Honours system, awards through state and local government systems and through organisations such as Volunteering Australia. The committee is responsible to the State Board of Management for the scoping and tasking of this initiative.
The Committee members are Caroline Bell, Michael Bourne, Graeme Elder, Robert Finch, Inspector Michael Lehmann and Chairman Graham Sussex. These members of the Committee form the judging panel for the Awards.
The Neighbourhood Watch State Awards comprise the following:
State Award of Honour - Acknowledges service of an outstanding and exemplary nature by a NHW Member or a Member of the Victorian Police Force.
State Award of Appreciation - Acknowledges outstanding and sustained support by an individual, business or company not a member of NHW.
Newsletter Award - Acknowledges the high standard of presentation, content, relevance and readability.
David Lentin Memorial Award - For the most acclaimed programme initiative that has made a major contribution to the aims and objectives of NHW.
The following points relating to this year's Awards are offered to assist with the preparation and submission of nominations: · Divisions and PSA Committees are encouraged to recognise contributions to Neighbourhood Watch with local awards, however a local award is no longer required prior to nomination for a State Honour. Similarly, all Newsletters are eligible for nomination for the State Newsletter Award provided they are endorsed by the local Police Coordinator. Newsletters are not required to have won a Divisional Award. · Closing date for nominations is Monday 30th August 2010. · Nomination forms, Rules and Judging Criteria for all Awards are available on the State website.
· There
are two ways of submitting nominations.
The process of hard copy submission continues, but as an option,
nominations can be submitted electronically as an attachment to an email

· Hard copy nominations for all Awards must be received at the State Communities Unit prior to 5:00pm on Monday 30th August, whilst email nominations must be sent prior to 5:00pm on that date. · The committee draws particular attention to the need for Newsletter Award nominations to strictly observe the provisions of Neighbourhood Watch manual January 2006 Section 3.3.4 - Newsletter Content. This information can be found on the Neighbourhood Watch State website.
This year the Awards will be presented at the State Conference on Saturday 16th October 2010.
Honouring the work and effort of our colleagues is the least we can do to recognise their contribution to our programs, so please be sure to submit the nominations that do them justice. |
